Now,
individuals with muscular dystrophy and a host of related neuromuscular
disorders will no longer have to travel long distances for
treatment.
Our center was established in 1992 and certified
in 1994 as a Muscular Dystrophy Association Clinic.
We treat patients with neuromuscular disorders such as Muscular Dystrophy,
Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), Masthenia Gravis and other nerve disorders.
Patients benefit from the full range of services
offered through the St. Francis Medical Center Regional Neuromuscular
Program. Services include:
. Diagnostic Evaluations
. Genetic Counseling
. Medical Therapy
. Rehabilitation Services
. Home Therapy
. Psychological & Social Services
The Neurologist, your Primary Care Physician and the Neuroscience
team develop treatment modalities and an individualized plan of care.
Having a comprehensive Neuroscience Program in your backyard assures
that the children and adults in Central New Jersey and Bucks County
receive the best care around.
To best serve the needs of our patients, collaboration
with community-based providers of care is an important part of the
St. Francis Regional Neuromuscular Program. The Program brings together
a wide range of skilled providers, both hospital-based and community-based,
to serve the special needs of each individual patient.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association formally announced its partnership
with St. Francis Medical Center and the Regional Neuromuscular Program
in the spring of 1994. With the MDA designation, the Neuromuscular
Program patient census expands to include all those MDA patients who
previously have been directed to other MDA clinics out of the region.
Patients have access to a health agency (MDA) that includes scientists
and concerned citizens whose aim is to conquer neuromuscular
diseases affecting millions of Americans.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association believes that there are "no
incurable diseases, only diseases for which no treatment has been
found".
A team of health professionals work with each patient in the program
to provide medical care and to arrange for any support services a
patient may need while undergoing treatment for neuromuscular disorders
at St. Francis Medical Center.
Patients can be referred to the Regional Neuromuscular Program by
physicians, nurses, community agencies, family members and through
self-referral.
