Magnet Award

St. Francis Nurses

Achieve Magnet Excellence

When a hospital exceeds the quality indicators and standards of nursing practice as defined in the American Nurses Association's Scope and Standards for Nurse Administrators (1996), they have achieved Magnet Recognition.  Simply put, the Magnet Recognition Award, by recognizing quality patient care and nursing excellence, provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care they can except to receive.  Research indicates that quality nursing is one of the most important attributes in attracting and retaining quality physicians and nurses and Magnet Designation recognizes the quality of our nursing environment and demostrates the importance of our nurses here at St. Francis.

But there are also implications for our patients.  These include:

  • Quality Nursing Care
  • Low nurse turnover rate
  • High patient satisfaction rates
  • Decrease in hospital acquired infections, personal injury, medication errors and related complications.

In March 2000, St. Francis Medical Center became the 17th hospital in the nation, and the first hospital in Mercer County and the Delaware Valley to receive this prestigious award from the American Nurses' Credentialing Center. The designation continues for four years. In 2004, we successfully received re-designation for quality patient care through Nursing Excellence.

For over 132 years we have provided quality healthcare to the Mercer County community in an environment that fosters the values of reverence for each person, community, justice, commitment to those who are poor, stewardship, courage, and integrity.

The Mission of Catholic Health is to nurture the healing ministry of the church by bringing it new life, energy and viability in the 21st Century. Fidelity to the Gospel urges us to emphasize human dignity and social justice as we move toward the creation of healthier communities.

Achieving Magnet Status is but one way we are living our mission
