A Special Message

from St. Francis Medical Center Board Chair, Joseph Youngblood II, Ph.D., J.D.

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to report that the Board of Trustees for St. Francis Medical Center has appointed David Ricci as the hospital’s Interim President. Please join me in welcoming Dave, who previously was the interim CEO of Saint Francis Healthcare, the Trinity Health ministry in Wilmington, Delaware. He will arrive on campus the week of November 27th.

The St. Francis family suffered a great loss with the passing of Vince Cos-tantino in September, and he would have been proud at the manner in which you have all continued to serve your community. For certain, he would have been proud of your performance during your recent Joint Commission visit. I want to personally thank your Chief Medical Officer, C. James Romano, MD, for his leadership over these last few months. In recognition of Jim's steadfast commitment, leadership and numerous contributions, he has been promoted to Senior Vice President and CMO for St. Francis. Jim and the rest of the leadership team will join with Dave to lead the St. Francis family to achieve its goals.

Today marks an important milestone for St Francis Medical Center. The signing of a letter of intent with Cooper University Health Care sets a path forward for our organizations. Cooper University Health Care is a world-class healthcare organization and Cooper and St. Francis share a charitable mission and long-standing history of providing quality healthcare to the most vulnerable in our State. The letter is the culmination of a thoughtful and carefully constructed process involving the St. Francis Medical Center Board of Trustees. I am thankful for the dedication of my colleagues and for the countless hours that were committed to maintaining our fiduciary and stewardship responsibilities. We believe we reached a decision that promises to have a lasting and positive impact for our extraordinary employees and our community. Since its founding over 144 years ago, St. Francis Medical Center has been a beacon of hope and health for the people of Trenton as well as the larger community of Mercer County. Our new relationship with Cooper allows us to grow our services and provide greater access to care for those we serve. This is a momentous occasion for our health ministry and for the City of Trenton. On behalf of the Board, we are proud of the collaboration we developed and look forward to working together on a final agreement.
